Re: RIP Walter Cronkite |
In "Fog" it seems like McNamara was still making excuses for himself -- still in the fog.

Re: RIP Walter Cronkite |
True enough...sad it seems to me. I don't want to defend the guy by any stretch, but just like LBJ, the guy I grew up hating in ALL respects turns out to be a bit more complicated than I thought...not that they don't both deserve a great deal of criticism, but it is interesting to learn of their side to it all, that makes it a bit, just a bit I suppose, understandable? If that makes sense...they not as much of the pure monsters I imagined is part of it...

No doubt about it. His book wasnt much better. However, on Charlie Rose he did acually utter the words, "we were wrong", but it took a bit of hammering to get him to say it. Then, he started on the excuses.

Re: RIP Walter Cronkite |
Maybe, if we were in elementary school. Then you can call me bbpoo. That might actually be funny. When I read that one, I knew it was time to go. As entertaining and educational as it all was, my 3 and 4 year olds were behaving in a similar manner. So I say to my wife, "Honey, call your friend, see if she can sit the kids. Then we'll go indulge in a lunch of Gyro's, all this talk of the Turks got me hankerin for a fat Gyro, stuffed with 100% local, grassfed fed, organogroovy western beef and delicious, tender Turkish lamb with taziki dressing and a bottle of wine." So we had our lunch on the beautiful riverside and got some much needed time to ourselves. So I must extend a hearty thanks to you for your Mid-East history, patient, tactful efforts with our favorite reviewer. Oh, and when I got home and looked in on this nice place Im enjoying much, I recieved a butt doodle! Mom always told me I was special. It's been a great day!

Re: RIP Walter Cronkite |
Yeah, I get far too easily drawn in when a topic of passing interest (eg, esp military history) catches my eye and the initial post shows a tidbit of information and not much else...I respond, and everyonce in a while it leads to an interesting exchange with, typically, someone else! veblen and I ended up connecting over a bunch of WWII stuff that originally was directed at Kman...and though Kman and I have great gulfs of disagreement between us, even the two of us came to an understanding of sorts...
Don't think that's gonna happen with this guy!
